چکیده

The purpose of this study was to determine if submaximal exercise resulted in increased levels of attention in young students. The participants were fourth grade students from a local elementary school. There were 27 total participants – 16 were in the exercise group, and 11 were in the control, or rest, group. Each student took two distractibility tests within an hour and a half. In between the preand post-tests, the experimental group participated in a small amount of aerobic physical activity, while the control group went to class as usual. Four paired t-tests were run to analyze the data. Each had an alpha value of 0.05. The distractibility test featured questions with both two and six distractors; the p-values for the control group with two, the control with six, the exercise group with two, and the exercise with six were respectively 0.0838, 0.0394, 0.1697, and 0.1570. As the only test to result in a significant improvement was the control group with six distractors, the research hypothesis that if elementary school students exercise before class, then their attention will greatly improve compared to those who did not was not supported. Oddly, while the exercise group did not have a significant amount of improvement, they maintained higher mean scores on the preand posttests for both types of questions in contrast to the rest group. Overall, exercise did not significantly improve the students’ attention levels. 1. Further research could examine the effects of multiple intensities of exercise in children. 2. The test should be administered by a familiar person, such as a teacher, because a stranger could cause distraction in the students. 3. The participants should practice the test multiple times before the experiment so their true attention levels can be scored. Future Research

Driver Drowsiness Detection by Identification of Yawning and Eye Closure

Today most accidents are caused by drivers’ fatigue, drowsiness and losing attention on the road ahead. In this paper, a system is introduced, using RGB-D cameras to automatically identify drowsiness and give warning. In this system two important modules have been utilized simultaneously to identify the state of driver’s mouth and eyes for detecting drowsiness. At first, using the depth informa...

Estimating the reliability of eyewitness identifications from police lineups.

Laboratory-based mock crime studies have often been interpreted to mean that (i) eyewitness confidence in an identification made from a lineup is a weak indicator of accuracy and (ii) sequential lineups are diagnostically superior to traditional simultaneous lineups. Largely as a result, juries are increasingly encouraged to disregard eyewitness confidence, and up to 30% of law enforcement agen...

Species Identification of Acanthamoeba Strains Isolated from Patients Referring to Farabi Eye Reference Center Using PCR-RFLP Method

Introduction: Acanthamoeba is an opportunistic protist, which is ubiquitously distributed in the environment. Infection with Acanthamoeba spp. poses threat to human health, such as, Acanthamoeba keratitis (AK) that is a vision-threatening infection of the cornea. This study aimed to identify the species of Acanthamoeba strains isolated from cornea of keratitis patients by polymerase chain react...

[The effect of suggestibility on eyewitness identifications: A comparison between showups and lineups].

There are two types of eyewitness-identification procedures: showups and lineups. Although the false-identification rate of showups was considered to be higher than that of lineups, experimental research has not always supported the superiority of lineups. Further, suggestibility of showups is believed to produce higher false-identification rates, but no experimental study has manipulated sugge...

The effects of verbal descriptions on performance in lineups and showups.

Verbally describing a face has been found to impair subsequent recognition of that face from a photo lineup, a phenomenon known as the verbal overshadowing effect (Schooler & Engstler-Schooler, 1990). Recently, a large direct replication study successfully reproduced that original finding (Alogna et al., 2014). However, in both the original study and the replication studies, memory was tested u...
